What are the pros? Great Tasting, Early
What are the cons? Nothing really
This is the first year I've had a garden and the first time, obviously, that I've grown melons. I bought four varieties (Eden's Gem, a honey dew, Orageglo, and the White Sugar Lump) and this one has been my favorite. It was the first one to produce a ripe melon and has the best taste.
I can't really comment on it's ease of growing since I don't have much experience beyond this year. I did have a lot of problem with cucumber beetles and mildew with it being such a wet year. The Eden's Gem and my honey dews were killed completely while the Sugar Lump has hung in there really well. It does seem to be a bit less resilient than the Orangeglo which produced extremely long hardy vines and foliage.
I'm not sure what's happened with the reviewers I've seen here and elsewhere who say that these melons don't have much flavor. I honestly think it's the best melon I've ever tasted and one of the sweetest.
