(Ratibida columnaris) Hardy perennial. A lovely, perennial flower that is a common sight in the great prairies of the West. Lovely, yellow, daisylike flowers have a tall seed cone; easy to grow.

What are the pros? Unique, drought tollerant

What are the cons? None

Review:

This shape of this flower with it's swept back petals and tall seed cone makes it a show stopper. I marked three stars for early maturity because as expected, we saw blooms on the second year. This is not a problem, of course, and is typical when growing flowers like this from seed. The plants tolerate dry conditions well, and did fine through the winter. I will definitely grow more of these, and am so happy to have this unique flower in our garden. Seems to tolerate the more acidic RI soil conditions just fine.

What are the pros? Lovely foliage and flowers.

What are the cons? No fragrance

Review:

This plant would be a wonderful addition to any flower garden that is located in a "glade-like" area like where my house is.It has beautiful foliage, beautiful chartruse yellow petals that hang straight down.It gets about 2-3 ft. tall, so must be planted in the middle or back of a flower bed.As with alot of other native plants,it can survive on less water than non-native plants and attracts BUTTERFLIES more than bees.If you should plant any seeds for the plants, they should be planted in the fall where you want them to grow. The seeds will sprout at the proper time int he early spring the next year.*Otherwise all the soaking, planting, etc.the next year will do you no good.If you are a person who is allergic to fragrances, this may be an ideal plant to have, since it has no fragrance.
