What are the pros? Easy, delicious, beautiful

What are the cons? None

Review:

2015 was the first year I grew this squash in my zone 8 rainy climate. I was apprehensive as I had read mixed reviews. I found it easy to germinate indoors in seed starter. I transplanted outdoors in May to a highly organic hugelculture garden deeply mulched. These plants had the option of extending toward long hours of sun one way or under the near complete shade of a fruit tree the other way. They all chose the shade and climbed high up in to the tree. Fruit were huge and beautiful. I harvested in early autumn in with fair yields (3-4 large fruit per plant). The fruit is light, buttery, and sweet. I will definitely be growing them again this year.

What are the pros? Love the look

What are the cons? didn't taste good

Review:

This squash produced much better than I expected for our short season northern climate. I was very happy with the beautiful look of this squash. Some of the squash sat on the vine and seemed like it had plenty of time to mature. However, the flavor of this squash was very bland. I waited to see if the flavor would get better in storage. It got slightly better, but still does not taste that great. Amy Goldman in her book, The Compleat Squash, also says that the flavor is not that good. I wish that I'd listened to her instead of William Woys Weaver. Out of the huge variety of plants that I grew this year, I only had two disappointments and this was one of them.

What are the pros? Sweet, survived borer invasion

What are the cons? None

Review:

The plants are tough and produce well. I planted five varieties. Almost everything else was wiped out by the squash borers but this and one other variety fought them off. Good production, very sweet squash, but not as starchy as the Chiriman squash, which was the other one to survive but which didn't produce as much. Seems like a dependable variety.

What are the pros? Easy to grow

What are the cons? none

Review:

I was wary of this squash because of how far north we lived. However it surprized me greatly. Great production, only had to water it once. Started it two weeks early in greenhouse , and then planted it in gravel pit but amended the holes with alfalfa meal, blood meal, and egg shell. Mulched heavily also. Amazing results. Did this with all our squash and tomatoes. Worked well.

What are the pros? beautiful, delicious skin, per

What are the cons? none

Review:

Fantastic squash overall; my favorite part is the soft chewy skin and its appearance but the flesh is also great. Very small seed center is nice in my opinion from a storage space point of view and for easier clean out and prep. Before curing it had a slightly banana-esque flavor that was great. Everyone loved it whose tried it so far. Only got 2 squash per plant but given the horrible soil, 3 transplants and late start I was impressed by its performance. Absolutely growing it again.
