Review:

The only area I had available to grow the vines is along the pool deck. The area, which is quite large and is covered in landscape rocks, turned out to be a great spot. I pushed rocks aside, punched holes in the landscape cloth and planted the seeds. In just days the plants emerged and quickly grew covering the rocks. We had a hot summer and some days reaching 100F. The vines never wilted in the heat and the rocks kept the melons hot. Not sure if the melons growing on the rocks had anything to do with it, but none of the melons developed a pale spot on the underside. I used the tendril and spoon method to determine ripeness. I harvested the first one today (09/09/18) and it was perfect. Oblong with a slight curve and about 15lbs. The melon had great texture, red color, sweet and extremely juicy. There is a sense of accomplishment growing your own watermelon for sure, but the knowledge of eating a fruit that is grown 100% with no fertilizer or pesticide is priceless. Growing again.
