What are the pros? Yield- large fruit
What are the cons? Decent flavor, others better
This year I included this variety in my trials for eggplant. I found it produces as advertised. The weight of individual fruits commonly exceeded 2lbs, and almost always over 1 lb. Each plant continues to set multiple fruit, and at the tail end of the season (getting ready to enter fall here), they continue to churn out fruit. I love the purplish-black sheen of the skin, but do not like the thickness. Depending on the method, the skin can remain tough after cooking. Taste is average- it is exactly what I would expect of a typical eggplant. I would compare these to Black Beauty in overall taste and size, with some differences in shape, primarily. If yield is your goal and you are not after a different color or different shape, this is a quality variety. I may continue to grow this variety in the future. However, I strongly favor Bangladeshi Long for taste and texture (also sold here at Baker Creek).
