Intermediate type - Introduced in 1897 by W. Atlee Burpee. This variety produces extra fine large bulbs that have superb flavor! The yellow-brown roots are a standard on our farm for their sureness to produce quality.

What are the pros? great onion!

Review:

I've always grown scallions but this was my first time growing bulbing onions. Here in this part of Georgia we plant onions in late October and I started intermediate day 'Australian Brown' and short day 'Red Creole' and 'Barletta' from seed. Seedlings grew fine under lights; kept them clipped to about 3" during growing. All grew fine once transplanted and were well mulched with leaves. However after a three week warm spell in February followed by cold temps again, the Red Creole and Barletta all bolted. The Australian Browns did not. Therefore the Red Creoles (great flavor!) and Barlettas didn't store at all and we lost most of them. I already have the Browns seeded and under lights for planting next month and will stay away from short day onions due to fluctuating early spring temps here in Georgia. Another lesson learned!

Review:

It is end of november and my onions not only store well, taste great, but when you cut thru it juices flow fresh & abundantly!I will always recomend people to grow this as one of their main stay crops! It was never affected by any deseases or bugs!Almost 100% germination and crop harvest but please remember my first try at growing them had poor germination but that could have been my fault cause my second try was about 100%!But please remember I entirely mulched them and watered them often during dry spells especially with hydrolated fish once a week to evry two weeks depending on the percipitation!

SORRY I had to add this more realistic hands on review for the buyers benifit!!Exellent, healthy, socky leaves, very thick and green even thou we had hardly any rain this 2015 season, but remember I entirely mulched the soil all around them and water them regularly and feed them alot in the beginning with Hydrolated Liquid fish and before planting I thourghly added a variity of good organic type admendments, from past experience I expect an excellent harvest, this is the impressive second best onion I ever grew but its not fair to compare it to the Yellow Parma I also bought from them that is #1 ecellent in every way

Review:

This is my third year for planting this onion. I started them from seed in mid-January, transplant late April and harvest late August. They produced nice size bulbs and are great keepers with a distinctly strong flavor. Highly recommended.
