(Helianthus annuus) A beautiful sunflower! Many 6” flowers in brilliant red, gold, yellow, rust, and burgundy. Blooms over a long period. Makes a wonderful display. Tall, 7’ plants are a favorite.

What are the pros? Easy to grow

What are the cons? -

Review:

These are beautiful sunflowers. I wish we could post pictures- mine are a gorgeous red and orange blend. They were easy to grow. The flower heads are smaller than typical sunflowers. It says in the description six inches and that’s what they are. Very pretty. Worth growing a ton!

Review:

I'm in Texas zone 8b. I planted these late, in late June. They were direct sown and watered 3 times a day until they came up. I got about 75% germination and plants were strong and healthy and bloomed in early September. They were spaced about 18-20 inches and the tallest plants got to a little over 7 feet. They survived an armyworm invasion with the help of handpicking and BT dust. They make beautiful 4 - 6 inch blooms all up and down the plant but they get a bit droopy at the top due to weight of all those blooms so I helped them by staking them up a little. My only disappointment is that I didn't get any color variation. They were all gold like a traditional sunflower. Only one plant had the tiniest hint of red near center. I was really hoping for some variation like shown in the pictures. Maybe the ones that didn't germinate were the red and orange ones. I have about ten of them planted and so far 7 of them are gold.

First time growing sunflowers and totally blown away with the quality, colors, and longevity of these plants! Had several blooms per plant and the bees loved them! Will grow these every year.

What are the pros? Trap plant, pretty, unaffected

What are the cons? None

Review:

I planted some of these and they didn't sprout, so I planted a few more, and now I have bunches of sunflowers because they all ended up growing! They are perfectly fine growing like this and I can't help but notice the incredible amount of leaf hoppers on them! Stink bugs seem dis-interested unfortunately. The hundreds of leaf hoppers don't seem to affect the plant and its a good way to congregate them for a soap spray. Transplants fine, tolerant of being submerged. Planting these everywhere next year or as soon as I get more seeds!
