(Helianthus annuus) A beautiful sunflower! Many 6-inch flowers in brilliant red, gold, yellow, rust and burgundy. Blooms over a long period. Makes a wonderful display. Tall, 7-foot plants are a favorite.

What are the pros? Longevity of plant

What are the cons? Has to be supported

Review:

First time growing sunflowers and totally blown away with the quality, colors, and longevity of these plants! Had several blooms per plant and the bees loved them! Will grow these every year.

What are the pros? Trap plant, pretty, unaffected

What are the cons? None

Review:

I planted some of these and they didn't sprout, so I planted a few more, and now I have bunches of sunflowers because they all ended up growing! They are perfectly fine growing like this and I can't help but notice the incredible amount of leaf hoppers on them! Stink bugs seem dis-interested unfortunately. The hundreds of leaf hoppers don't seem to affect the plant and its a good way to congregate them for a soap spray. Transplants fine, tolerant of being submerged. Planting these everywhere next year or as soon as I get more seeds!

What are the pros? unusual color, multiple flowers

What are the cons? broke during storms

Review:

I live in SW MO (zone 6b). I planted these because sunflowers are supposed to be a good deterrent for harmful insects and I don't like to use pesticides. These were very easy to grow, had great germination and required no maintenance except I did have to tie them upright because storms would break them. The finches love them.

Review:

This was my first year to grow Autumn Beauty Sunflowers and I am blown away. I garden in containers called Garden Anywhere Box. I planted about 8 seeds to the box and harvested all summer. I love that there are multiple flowers at a time. I have a Pinterest page where I compile my daily harvest pics: http://www.pinterest.com/gardenanywhere/garden-anywhere-box-2014/ If you want to see how the sunflowers did, check out my pinterest page. I harvested all summer and planted again in August. I didn't know if they would make it until a freeze, but I wanted to take a chance. We ended up building a little greenhouse and I was able to move my boxes inside. I am harvesting sunflowers right now.

What are the pros? Many flowers on each plant

What are the cons? low germination /weak branchs

Review:

Grew these alongside "lemon" sunflowers. These paled in comparison. only 50% of my seeds germinated compared to nearly 100% with the "lemons". the plants are small and I was disapointed in the colors. I expected a variety of bright colors but did not get that. Perhaps the soil PH is not what they liked. The flowers are small but pretty and would make a good arangement. I will not purchase this variety next year.
