Dwarf types with fruits ranging from dessert types to plantain (cooking) types. Height ranges from 6-14 feet in most cases, making these suitable for large container culture. This crop is easy to grow in the South and produces fruit rather quickly. Some varieties have green fruit and some red. You can grow these as far north as zone 8 with protection or in heated greenhouses or sun-rooms farther north. We love growing bananas in our Missouri greenhouse and get a crop in around a year. We offer 3 assorted small plants for $15.00

Please consider these terms before ordering live plants:
Most plants will be 3”-7” in height. Plants will ship as available after the first of March to the end of
May. We will try to ship orders to southern zones first. No guaranteed exact delivery dates. Plants may
arrive too early and have to be kept inside until the weather warms. Plants may arrive late, as well.
Due to the sensitive nature of small plants, there is the possibility of a crop failure. If such a situation
occurs, we will do our best to issue you a refund in a timely manner. Last minute losses can occur at
any point in our shipping timeline, and we may have to issue a refund even late in the season. No

orders shipped outside of the USA. No Extra shipping costs; you just pay our regular $3.50. (PRE-ORDER PLANTS WILL SHIP AFTER MARCH 1, 2018)

What are the pros? grows very fast, still growing

What are the cons? can't pick varieties

Review:

Only 6" tall when I got them; but, in 6 months they grew into 3-6' trees. I just love them. They love water in the summer (watered 3 times/wk and allowed the top 1" of soil to dry out), love humidity, (group the potted plants together), need well-drained soil to prevent root rot and death (buy citrus/cactus potting soil and plant in a terracotta pot) and will die off when the weather drops below 45 degrees. Last year, my first year of growing, I planted them in a raised bed but when the weather started getting chilly, I dug them up and potted them in a large peat pot. This strategy did not work and I lost all. This winter, I will move the terracotta pots to the south side of the house and probably use regular (not LED) Christmas lights to keep them warm and/or probably throw a frost blanket over them and move them in the garage. If the plants survive this winter, I am hoping to have very fresh bananas to eat.

What are the pros? Easy to grow, grow quickly

What are the cons? Some arrived barely alive

Review:

Most of the bananas looked fairly healthy on arrival, but some looked almost dead. I followed direction and they all grew well, with only one runt. Planted in June after month in pots and most over 7 ft by end of Oct. They look great in the banana circle I built with sweet potato and papaya interspersed. First near frost killed the leaves so I chopped off the top and they are still growing strong. Looking forward to fruit next year if they survive the winter - I am building a temporary greenhouse around them for winter. USDA 8b is still too cold for them to stay outside unprotected.

What are the pros? Price, size, shipped very fast

What are the cons? Unable to select varieties

Review:

I ordered these a couple weeks ago and they arrived within days, packaged very well in biodegradable peanuts that went into my compost bin. The plants were nice sized, very happy, healthy and very moist and crisp (not wilted at all). No need to water immediately after receiving, so I potted them up in some really big tree pots. I mixed up compost with potting soil and planted them in it. They have been doing wonderful! I am keeping them under our mulberry tree right now as its in the 100's here at the moment and don't want to scorch them. One of the plants did have a crack in a leaf from shipping, so that is a bit of a setback for it, but its recovering and growing a new leaf out the top. They look like they have already grown 1-2 inches in 9 days. The only thing I think they could change in selling these plants, is to offer people the selection of the different varieties they show on the baggies the plants arrive in. I would have loved to have selected a Basjoo and a Ice Cream banana.

Review:

I bought these to use as houseplants and to hopefully get some fruit from. I have only had them for a week and I am glad to say they are doing great! They came in as plugs in small individual bags with their variety name on the bag. They were about 4-6 inches tall on arrival and one has grown an inch since. Overall I think this was a great buy and I'm excited to see if I get bananas when they're larger!
