The same large, deeply pleated leaves as Genovese that everyone loves, but instead of green, Red Freddy boasts deep Roman purple.

What are the pros? Easy, dependable, pretty

What are the cons? None

Review:

I've grown Red Freddy two years straight and am completely pleased with this variety. It's a beautiful purple color with specks of green throughout. Visually stunning and a nice contrast to other items in the veggie patch. It's also very hardy and tastes great. A must have variety for me every year.

What are the pros? Can thrive in extreme heat

What are the cons? Nothing

Review:

This can survive Arizona summers. It sprouted without problems and has been growing in a shallow pot in mostly full sun and still going strong in 115 degrees (shade temp). The leaves get a bit hardened off if it is under watered in extreme heat (expected). Tastes great and goes well on pizza and pasta. This is a very hardy plant! It grows a pretty deep green when over 105 degrees and grows purple in cooler temps. This is a winner!
