Cute little compact plants are only 6-10” tall and are great for growing in containers. It has a spicy, slightly anise flavor and is a must for Greek cooking.

What are the pros? grows well, tolerates heat

What are the cons? taste

Review:

in the very hot and humid climate of Houston it grew well and had a lot of foliage almost all year; it set seeds and started to die off only for about a month in the hottest part of the summer, but rebounded to regular growth when temperatures went down again, and off died off only late in the year after first frost, so it lasted a long time. However, I personally did NOT like the taste of it; it's very spicy and unlike regular basil, so I gave the rest of my seeds away to a friend and won't grow again myself.

Review:

I grew this, along with a few others basils from BCS. They all germinated fine. This one for sure gets larger and more sprawley than the pic. I had been hunting Greek basil since buying some at Lowes years ago...which survived our heat just fine. This is not the same, but still sailed through the heat and rain just fine. It is good plavored and a basil I will grow again.

What are the pros? Wonderful plant!

What are the cons? No dislikes

Review:

This is the first time I grew the Greek Basil. It was amazing! I grew it hydroponically among some other herbs. This basil was 9 to 10" tall, so full that it almost formed a globe. Leaves were in perfect shape with no noticeable pests munching anywhere. I harvested it over Memorial Day Weekend and made pesto. The one plant produced 4 packed cups of basil leaves and top stems. Just after a few days, it's hard at work growing more stems and leaves. I added a few basil leaves from a different variety and what I noticed was that the Greek Basil top stems were very tender and the other basil stems were very woody. To me, you're able to use more of the plant in your food preparation. Flavor of this basil was mellow and full of sweet basil aroma, a wonderful flavor. Other varieties of basil have a sharp taste and stronger aroma. By far, this was one of the best pesto's I've ever had. I look forward to growing this many more times.

What are the pros? Great flavor, easy, compact

What are the cons? None

Review:

SC, Zone 7 We grew so much of this basil all year, we were giving plants away in the summer. The plant is compact with smaller leaves than other basils, so plant as many as you have room for as each plant will produce more leaves if you harvest less than 1/3 of any single plant at one time. We paired this with tomato like other basils in italian dishes primarily. Strangely, a friend suggested trying a leaf with dark chocolate - it really brings out the minty qualities! Delicious!
