Beni Kodama Watermelon

One of the earliest maturing watermelons of all, a pocket-sized watermelon from Japan. Perfect for short season gardeners; extra small fruit averages just 2-3 pounds. These mini melons are ideal for those super short season gardens, and the personal sized fruit are ideal for marketing or home use. This darling little fruit is green with dark stripes, and the sweet flesh is red.

What are the pros? Tasty, Avg Seeds, Cute Size

What are the cons? Flavour not for everyone

Review:

I really enjoyed growing these. They are small so you can fit them easier in a small garden. There is an average amount of seeds but were pretty minor. With the picture above, assume that man has large hands or harvested too early. I thankfully found after they were full size that waiting a few weeks helped ensure they were ripe. The only issue was not all of my friends enjoyed the flavour. I would best describe it as a creamy cucumber flavour. That being said I think people were expecting a more direct Watermelon flavour.

What are the pros? Grows in Washington!

What are the cons? Hard to tell wh ripe, seeds

Review:

They are so cute! I planted three seeds, and got eight watermelons. Each was palm sized, very seedy, and sweet, even when picked too early. Like others said, its TOUGH to tell when to pick them I waited until the stems died on most of them which was too long. They love full sun and need fertilizing. The plants are not huge and these hardy little plants managed to survive even in my heavily planted garden! They came trailing out through the fence and I had to put 'bunny covers' over them... aka... wire trash cans to keep them safe.

What are the pros? Easy to grow

What are the cons? Can't tell when ripe

Review:

These looked so amazing growing on my trellis, but they got much bigger than the picture and were still didn't have red flesh. Even though they were white inside, they were ripe and sweet with a good texture. The few that I left on for longer started to turn pinkish-red but had an almost fermented taste like they were past ripe. I don't mind a white watermelon if that's what they're supposed to be.

What are the pros? Easy to grow with high yield

What are the cons? Hard to tell when ripe.

Review:

The picture on the website shows a small melon being held in the palm of two hands. My melons grew abit larger but it was hard d to tell if they were ripe. I picked one and it was ripe inside but white. Two weeks latter I pick another and the same thing. I wish there was as more info before purchasing.
