What are the pros? lots of eggplant!
What are the cons? no dislikes
While the description indicates "lower yielding", I found that here in San Diego that Black Beauty is a real workhorse in the garden. Six plants yielded DOZENS of huge eggplant. Grown as our main crop eggplant for dehydrating and freezing, it exceeded our needs and many were shared!
The plants and fruit were so huge that I had to support branches at times! Compost, manure, and weak (2 T:gallon) kelp weekly. We kept them picked and didn't allow all the fruit that set to mature as the plants couldn't have supported all of the set fruit. Plants were about 3' tall and vigorously grew in a space about 5'x 4'. I didn't allow the plants to sucker from the ground and pruned to control bugs hiding out on the lower/hidden leaves.
The plants were trouble free (other than a hunt for a tomato hornworm) and produced all Summer into Fall.
