What are the pros? Dark color, smooth, tasty

What are the cons? weak grower, few fruit

Review:

The fruit are so shiny and lovely black. And the flesh--so luscious and savory! These were the slowest growers, but worth it, even for the smaller yield. The leaves are even bluish. It's wild!

What are the pros? Appearance/distinctive color;

What are the cons? maturity, tough skin, diseases

Review:

Raised 2 plants successfully and they put on growth comparable to other varieties, but the fruit took an inordinate amount of time to mature. The flavor was good but skins were leaning towards the leathery side of texture. This one-time experience also resulted in a low fruit set/production, but so did other varieties this year. These are real attention-getters on the vine and the salad bowl, but both of the plants fizzled early and succumbed to disease. Based on this sole planting experience I would only grow them in soil or containers where the likelihood of tomato disease are reduced, Would recommend only if a gardener is looking for different landscape appeal or eye candy table fare. Otherwise its a lot of effort for not much reward.

What are the pros? Color, flavor and ease of grow

What are the cons? Takes too long to mature

Review:

I wish I could post a picture here because the color of the tomato water after thawing them is purple, a vibrant purple. The flavor raw is delightful and I know the sauce will be as wonderful. Thanks for this new variety. Can't wait for next year.

What are the pros? showy, rich flavor

What are the cons? Long long ripening

Review:

The flavor must be heavily dependent on soil and moisture conditions as well as ripeness. I wouldn't grow these in a container or a semi sun spot - I grew these in-ground, in full sun, in very well drained soil a bit on the acidic side. I started three plants eight weeks early, and all were stocky and strong throughout the cool spring here. I watered during dry spells but they seemed to acclimate well without much attention, and set a ton of fruit. The ripening time is very long, and it's best to wait until they are at least thoroughly pink and a bit softened (in the underside areas that aren't blackened) to pick. Then let them mature to a brick-like color before eating. The dark black areas might lose their shine a little. Under these conditions the flavor was excellent. Didn't have any cracking until we got some heavy rain late in the season. I'll definitely grow this again.

What are the pros? Easy to grow plant, beautiful

What are the cons? Too long to rippen, cracks

Review:

Disappointed with these tomatoes. Plants took off easily and had sooo many tomatoes very early, but took forevee to rippen. By the time they would rippen, they were cracked or started to go bad. The only way to get some was to pick unripe and rippen in house which defeats the purpose. Woulb NEVER plant again
