75 days. Unique, black-colored fruit that are the shape of a Jalapeno. They are mildly hot and have a delicious flavor. The tall plants have beautiful purple flowers that make this variety very ornamental. Rare and colorful!

What are the pros? The colors and flavor

What are the cons? not easy seed starting

Review:

In the past Black Hungarian pepper seeds seemed difficult for me to germinate. But, this year both saved and new seeds shot right up and grew well under lights, surviving potting-up and transplanting into the garden. An early attack of horn worms didn't do much damage or deter their growth. They are doing well in south-central MO. zone 6. I have lots of peppers, both black and luscious lipstick red. I love both colors. Even in the hot, dry, on-the-verge-of -drought present conditions I have lots of those lovely purple flowers. These are a mildly hot pepper and letting the plant wilt a bit before watering doesn't seem to increase the heat. (That's what Rezha is for!) I use these raw in salads, in cooked recipes and in chutney and pickles. I also dice several bags full and freeze for winter use. I recommend this pepper.

What are the pros? Early and beautiful

What are the cons? None

Review:

These were the earliest and most beautiful peppers in my garden last year and am growing them again this year. The leaves are either a deep glossy green or a dark purple/black. The black peppers have a fresh green taste like a very mild jalapeno, and when allowed to ripen to red have a deep smoky flavor with medium spice. I like to let them ripen red and chop up to toss in a stir fry. If you are looking for pepper that is early, prolific, and beautiful you will not be disappointed.

Review:

Gorgeous, easy to grow pepper. Produces a ton, and after the frost I cut them back and repotted in windowsill pots to overwinter, where they still produced peppers! I'm super happy with this one, and it's made its way into the set of peppers I grow every year.

What are the pros? Flavor, Flowers, Color

What are the cons? Didn't get very large

Review:

I've never had much luck with peppers in my current garden. I try every year but they always seem to produce poorly. These did better than most producing lots of little peppers. If my season had been longer or I had started them earlier they might have gotten bigger. The small (probably more unripe ones) were a little bitter but the more full sized ones I got were so good. I used them in pico de gallo and as a replacement for Jalapeno or Anaheim in several dishes and my family loved the flavor. They are less hot than either Jalapenos or Anaheim so they might not be your thing, but we loved the lower heat and great flavor. I will grow these every year from now on. As an added bonus the flowers are a gorgeous purple that are pretty enough to be in a flower garden.
