What are the pros? Flavor

What are the cons? None

Review:

This is a very sweet and very early melon. Taste is excellent and the seeds are brittle. This, sugar baby, and crimson sweet are the best eating melons period in my opinion. Those are the all-stars, yet this is the number one best.

What are the pros? Early Harvest

What are the cons? cant think of any

Review:

All my varieties did about the same, and are all very taisty. The Blacktail Mountain was the first to mature in my watermelon garden, and I will grow these year after year.

What are the pros? Carefree plant

What are the cons? More seeds than flesh

Review:

I grew this wm for the first time this year. Zone 5, direct seeded in late May, into holes in a tarp (to control weeds and retain heat and moisture) and ate the first melon middle of August. Very tasty and sweet, good size for a personal-type watermelon. My only complaint is there are SO many seeds, more seeds than flesh seemingly! Hundreds of them. Easily twice as many as Sugar Baby which I also grew. I like seed spitting as much as they next guy, but this was a bit ridiculous. But Blacktail Mountain is earlier and slightly sweeter.

What are the pros? Really sweet melon

What are the cons? None

Review:

I grew this round melon in a 4 x 8 raised bed that was amended with lots of compost with clay soil at the base of the bed and 3 inches of mulch on top. They were transplanted as seedlings June 2 and I harvested my first melon around August 24th. The tendril nearest the stem was brown and that was what I used to check for ripeness whether they had a sun spot or not. This method worked for me, I had 4 plants that produced 12 melons that were 7 pounds each. These originally were labeled sugar babies and I bought them thinking they would be perfect for my raised bed, apparently they were mislabeled at the nursery and I got Blacktails instead. Glad I did, I plan to grow these next year my neighbors and I enjoyed these sweet, refreshing melons. I had no problems with the vines getting diseased or critters trying to eat them.

What are the pros? Low maintenance, abundant

What are the cons? None

Review:

Direct seeded in zone 6 and fertilized early on but nothing not even watering after flowers and got at least a dozen melons from less than a dozen plants. Planted with other varieties that never came up, also failed to grow other varieties in past years. These were so easy, will plant again, maybe start them a couple weeks before frost so we are enjoying them in July.
