What are the pros? Color mix
What are the cons? Some people don't like scent
I grow these year after year because the colors are stunning both on a garden fence and as cut flowers. I've grown these in Dallas (zone 8a) and Central Texas (9a) and the trick is to plant them in October and let them overwinter in the ground. I don't bother mulching or covering them unless we have a freak cold snap with multiple days in the teens. They'll sprout in the fall and then really take off around February. Make sure your trellis is in place in early February. They bloom in March and April. The photo on the seed packet they come in can be misleading: this is a mix of a range of blues and purples -- everything from royal blue to red violet to a pastel lavender. Absolutely lovely.
