Chinese Light Green Long Bean

This noodle bean reaches 20-30 inches long! Fun for kids gardens or dramatic effect in edible landscaping. The impossibly long pods make a statement in the garden, dripping chandelier-like from lush vines and seemingly growing inches a day! Beyond its ornamental value, the beans are tender, flavorful and highly nutritious- high in vitamin B, C, and protein. The plants love the intense heat of summer, producing profusions of pods as the temperatures creeps into the high 90s.

What are the pros? Tastes Great!! Easy to Grow

What are the cons? non

Review:

I planted these early August in south Alabama. They germinated quickly, within a few days. I had never grown these before so I didn't know what to expect. I harvested my first beans when they were around 12 inches long a few days ago, Sept 14th. After reading a few recipes, I chopped them into several pieces and stir fried in bacon fat with sliced garlic. They were delicious. They have a normal "green bean" taste, but with a definite "asparagus" taste as well. I recommend them to everyone. My garden will always have these some where. The only regret I have, is I didn't plant enough. I'll double my order next time.

What are the pros? Easy to grow, high yields

What are the cons? Nothing to complain about!

Review:

These have been excellent. In coastal South Carolina the high temperatures in late July and August often kill off most of my garden at the end of the season. Not these! They have thrived in the heat, and are honestly producing more now than they did in June. They definitely need to be trellised. I made a trellis out of half inch pvc to make an arch so that the beans could hang down, and I just walk underneath to pick them. I’ve been picking enough to fill a couple quart sized bags a week to chop and freeze. They saut? or steam very nicely! Not quite the same taste as the typical green beans we’re used to, but they’re sweet, and delicious. I will be growing these every year. Very resistant to bugs, I haven’t had to use any sort of pest control.

Review:

Incredible producer! We grew them this year for the first time on arched hog panels, thanks to Jess of course from R&R!! :) they are as pretty as they are tender and will always be a staple in our garden. My only regret is not buying more than one pack. Thank you baker creek for all that you do!

What are the pros? Yummy!

What are the cons? Slow Growing

Review:

These were a first for us. I dint really know what to expect. I planted them like our traditional pole beans. They were much slower to grow, I assume because of low early summer temps. These things like heat. As soon as we got into the 80's they perked up a lot. The big 25 " pods become hollow and are inedible. The smaller ones though are delicious. I personally don't like fresh steamed green beans. These however are delicious. So far I've steamed them and stir fried them both with excellent results. Definitely going to be a regular crop for us from now on.

Review:

These beans grow like crazy even in southeast Louisiana in the middle of summer - June/July. They are growing on an arched trellis in my garden and they are beautiful. We have cooked them in stir fries with summer squash. Fantastic and highly I recommend!
