Chocolate Morning Glory

(Ipomoea nil) The Japanese started selecting morning glories in the 9th century, and this selection is one of their most stunning. Huge, 5” blooms are in the loveliest creamy, chocolate-pink color. Large plants produce loads of these beauties that are so rare and unique. Imperial Japanese morning glories were quite popular in America during Victorian times, and we plan to make them popular here once again.

What are the pros? Beautiful colors

What are the cons? Variation in color

Review:

Some of these ended up being fuschia colored with white at the tips. They were beautiful but not all chocolate. I feel like I couldn't get them to fill in as well as the common Grandpa Ott. They were a little more thin. I put out fertilizers but they never got as bushy as I hoped.

What are the pros? Fun to grow

What are the cons? Not much

Review:

These aren't your typical, low-maintenance morning glories. I tried tossing them into the dirt like I've done with morning glories before, but none came up. I realized I was dealing with a more delicate plant than your average morning glory. I germinated them in a container indoors and was more careful, and 4/6 seeds popped up quickly. I can't wait to see those beautiful blooms.

Review:

Very slow to begin blooming, and a little stingy with the blossoms at first. However the color is AMAZING. They are rich cocoa color, very vintage looking. The blooms are a mammoth 4"-5" across. Foliage is very attractive as well and variegated.

What are the pros? Beautiful foliage and flowers

What are the cons? Below average germination

Review:

I only had one of six come up, but that one... oh, man. It's gorgeous. The pictures don't do it justice. I'm not sure if I like the flowers or the uniquely-shaped variegated foliage better. By far my favorite plant in the garden.
