(C. pepo) 100 days. The heirloom pumpkin of the New England settlers and Indians, several hundred years old. Golden fruit weigh about 20 lbs each. This is a truly old variety; can be used for pies; the traditional American pumpkin.

What are the pros? Healthy plant

What are the cons? Groundhogs and other pest

Review:

I particularly like to grow old and rare types in my garden so I tried these this year. This pumpkin is a good choice, seems pest and disease free so far... until a groundhog decided it looked quite tasty! I managed to get 3 mostly ripe pumpkins off one plant though. Haven't tried them yet but they look lovely their color and shape is very nice wonderful for decorating :-) I believe if protected and given plenty of space(it will send long vines in all directions) you could easily get atleast 5-8 or more per plant. I will definitely be growing this again!

Review:

Thought i would plant this for fun, and in the Fall, i would have a few pumkings for Halloween. Started the plant, then put it in the ground, about the 1st week of june. Took a while, for them to get really going. Then, BOOM!!! Holy Crap Pumpkin Man. These things took off like A Wild Fire. Here we are, July 26th, and i have 4-5, the size of Basket Balls, turning Orange already. I have a friend that farms for Markets, and i may have him take some for Pie Pumpkins. Seeing these are SO BIG already, and turning Orange, i'm not sure how to tell when to pick it. These Dang things produce like crazy.

What are the cons? Not as sweet

Review:

Great field pumpkin. We planted all the seeds and got about 90 square feet of pumpkins when stacked single layer on a wagon. We left another 40 square feet of more green or damaged (mice like them too!) pumpkins in the field for the deer to eat over winter. We feed three pumpkins a day to our Large English Black heritage pigs as a treat. They love them too!
