(Tagetes erecta) The giant African type that is popular with gardeners coast to coast; the big double blooms come in shades of lemon yellow to deep orange, and the 30-inch plants are profuse.

What are the pros? Gorgeous, pollinator drawing

What are the cons?

Review:

These are amazing. Great germination rate, my plants grew to about 4ft tall. The gorgeous, full blooms are enormous - the size of my hand. The colors are beautiful and they seem to draw pollinators like crazy. Even though I started them early they did seem a bit slow to get going but we are at 8000 elevation and experienced an abnormally cold June. All things considered they grew really well and are still producing many blooms in mid-September. Will certainly plant these again.

What are the pros? easy to grow, companion plant

What are the cons? nothing

Review:

i did not believe that marigolds could get so big, but i'm sure glad they did! i companion planted these around my vegetable garden - they look cute and they've done their job very well. my only wish is that i had started them indoors! it may have been our overly hot and dry summer, or it may just be that flowers are not my specialty, but these were very slow to get started for me. now that fall is approaching, they look wonderful! large, round, long-lasting blooms. i will plant again next year but start indoors in the spring.

What are the pros? My favorite marigold

What are the cons? None

Review:

These get tall! Mine are at 4 feet right now. They don't get lost among my vegetable garden like regular marigolds. Help attract pollinators!

What are the pros? heat tolerant, easy, huge

What are the cons? none

Review:

Last year was my first year doing a garden in SW Nebraska. DRY from what I'm used to. We directly sowed these as a border around our vegetable garden to block out pests and weeds. Not bad for that, it was a good size garden, but they were a lot bigger than expected! At least my height, stalks thicker than my thumb. This year (ordered a second oz) we plan to use them instead as a mass planting border along our backyard fence. Love these!

What are the cons? none

Review:

Ok... when people say they grow tall .. um.. I'm 5ft .. they were taller than me. don't plant inbetween short plants. These grew amazing.. and were wonderful intermixed with my tomatoes. They were simply beautiful and kept growing well into fall.. I saved a ton of seeds and will grow these every year.. I do believe they kept the bugs away.
