Cubanelle Sweet Pepper

Also known as “Cuban pepper”, the Cubanelle is a variety of sweet pepper commonly used in Cuban, Puerto Rican, and Dominican cuisine. Many cooks prefer it to bell types. Sweet Cubanelle peppers can sometimes be slightly hot, but with only a touch of heat. This 6-8” pepper is prized for its sweet, mild flesh, rich flavor, and pretty colors. The thin-walled pepper is especially suited for quick cooking and has a low water content. Best picked when yellow-green for use in roasting, stuffing, as a pizza topping, for frying, a substitute for Anaheim peppers, or in a yellow mole sauce, and is one of the traditional ingredients in sofrito. They can also be left to mature and harvested when bright orange-red. In the garden, in addition to their famed taste and colors, the Cubanelle peppers are also known for their unique, imperfectly curled, wrinkled, and twisted shapes--no two seem to ever be alike.

What are the pros? Flavor, size, & production

What are the cons? That I did not grow more

Review:

I tried these out for the first time this year. They took a little minute to start ripening, so I started eating them green. Then once they started ripening, they took off!! This is the first time I have been able to grow a large sweet pepper in my climate. Both this and the Zulu sweet peppers performed amazing. The flavor is great raw, cooked, or fermented. I will definitely grow these again next year, just a whole lot more plants so I can have some extra to enjoy in the winter. Thank you Baker Creek for supplying this amazing pepper!!

What are the pros? Great tasting pepper

What are the cons? None

Review:

These seeds had great germination and grew quickly once established. The plant is a prolific producer of wonderfully mild & sweet snacking peppers. This plant didn't seem affected by the multitude of disease & pest issues that my other vegetable plants have suffered from here in Central Florida.

What are the pros? Tenacious

What are the cons? None

Review:

I started these late last season only one of 3 came up. Bad summer for peppers in my area. The amazing part being; it survived the winter. Currently still trying to ripen the one fruit that took.

What are the pros? Productive, trouble free

What are the cons? Not especially early

Review:

Grown these (from another source as Baker Creek was not selling them then) and was really happy with them. Plants were compact and productive, good for containers or, like I did, grow in hydroponic. Good harvest of tasty peppers.
