Description

Ships from late September through November.

(Narcissus). Breathtaking blooms as big as a dinner plate, these daffodils have impressive 5-inch petals, making them some of the largest we've ever seen! Delicate white, star-shaped outer petals encircle a frilly, flat trumpet of brilliant lemon yellow. Often compared to a sunny-side-up egg, we think they resemble a golden chalice on an ivory saucer. Dinner Plate won the RHS Award of Garden Merit in 2010, and its bold beauty shines in any vase or garden. With strong stems, they won’t droop, and like all daffodils, they naturalize over time, offering stunning spring blooms year after year.

Growing Tips, Tricks and FAQs

Growing Tips

Dinnerplate daffodil grows best in rich, sandy soil with full sun to partial shade. Amend the soil with organic matter, such as compost, if necessary, to improve drainage. Make sure the daffodils receive at least 6 hours of sunlight daily for optimal blooming.

When to Grow

Plant Dinnerplate daffodil bulbs in the fall, ideally from September to November, just before the first hard frost of the season. This allows the bulbs to establish their roots before winter sets in. These daffodils are hardy in USDA Zones 3-8.

How to Sow and Plant

Plant the bulbs 6 inches deep with the pointed end facing up. Space them 3-6 inches apart for individual planting, or closer (2-4 inches apart) for mass planting to create a dense, colorful display. Water thoroughly after planting to remove air pockets, but avoid overwatering during the winter.

How to Grow

Water regularly during the growing season and provide a balanced fertilizer when shoots emerge in spring. After flowering, allow the foliage to die back naturally to replenish the bulbs for the next year. These daffodils naturalize well and will multiply over time, providing many years of beautiful blooms.

How to Save

These perennials will return and fill in year after year, making them a long-lasting choice for your garden. Over time, daffodil bulbs multiply and can be dug up and divided every 3-5 years to prevent overcrowding and ensure better blooming.
