Dark Galaxy Tomato

A Delicious Galactic Beauty-- With mottled skin resembling a scene from deep space, each fascinating fruit depicts the depth and beauty of the night sky. Dark Galaxy bears 2-8 ounce fruits that are flattened, with red and orange stripes covered in random speckles, and layered by deep blue. The vines themselves display a purple blush and grow 5-6 feet tall while producing good amounts of the stunning tomatoes that begin to ripen in about 75 days. The taste is a perfect balance of tangy-sweetness--so juicy and refreshing! Each fruit is a unique work of art, sure to be a garden and tabletop centerpiece! Another stunning tomato from Brad Gates.

What are the pros? The name

What are the cons? Low production, rough skin

Review:

Of all the varieties I started this year, Dark Galaxy was the one I was most excited about; the description sounded stunning and there were a fair number of good reviews. As it turned out, Dark Galaxy was my biggest disappointment. Not many fruit, and when ripe they were a mottled red, not like the photo in the catalog. The flavor was meh, but the worst thing in my opinion was the texture of the skin.; it was rough and looked diseased. I never served them because they were small and ugly. Brad Gates had a winner in the Atomic Grape, but this one was a clunker. Overall, I guess the best thing about this tomato was the dramatic description!

What are the pros? appearance, flavor, production

What are the cons? cracking on some individuals

Review:

out of 14 different tomato varieties, Dark Galaxy was the only variety to show blossom end rot, but production was still heavy! Might be our abnormally cold spring temps? Lots of variation in size of fruit and amount of flecking on skin, but anthocyanin production was consistent on fruit exposed to direct sunlight. With 2 plants grown in the exact same "hole," despite very careful irrigation practices, one plant had all the fruit split (before ripening) while the other plant didn't have any cracking whatsoever! Definitely recommended to grow out a few plants to get the best expressions, but if all you care about is flavor, Brad has that locked in: all of my plants tasted great! However, it will taste watery/bland if you irrigate too often when ripening, definitely requires the right conditions for best flavor. Highly recommended to give this one a shot for the appearance alone, what a masterpiece!

What are the pros? Productive, beautiful, tasty

What are the cons? Slow germination

Review:

By far my most productive and vigorous growing tomato plant. It was slow to start at first when I was starting it inside, but it really took off after I transplanted it outside. I've only planted one of these tomato plants, and it's needed extra stakes along with its normal tomato cage just to keep it contained and takes up by far the most space. So many flowers! It took a while to set fruit, but it has more fruit than any of my other tomato plants, with more to come. The fruits themselves really are beautiful. The taste is above average with some depth beyond the typical tomato flavor.

What are the pros? So many blooms = tons of yield

What are the cons? None

Review:

These guys are producing so many fruits I had to stake up heavily!!! very pleased with the colors of the fruit as well and the taste is mild and slightly sweet. Compared to the other tomatoes I have grown from baker creek these guys flower a ton and fruits are about palm size. The foliage is also very pretty with darker green stems than other tomatoes and streaks of purple on the stems make a very beautiful plant. Looking forward to collecting the seeds and growing again.

What are the pros? strong and vigorous growth.

What are the cons? very little lol

Review:

These are the strongest and greenest tomato plants I've seen. They took a bit to get going ans I lost 1 or 2 when they where seedlings but once they started growing wow!! The deepest green plants I've grown almost black on some plants and they are just "robust" plants. They look much better than any other tomato plant I'm growing at the time. Let's see once the tomatoes get here!!!
