(Rumex sanguineus) Stunning foliage plant with elongated, medium green leaves, exquisitely veined in a brilliant burgundy-purple. A hardy perennial, it quickly forms an attractive clump, which sends up red flower-clusters in early summer, followed by brown seed heads. A superb, deer-resistant accent plant.

What are the pros? Fast, easy, self sowing, pretty

What are the cons? None.

Review:

Planted this green last spring and was very pleased with it's performance. Easy and fast growing, but not huge. Worked well for us in planters by creating visual interest and was a nice snack when walking by. It has a pleasant sour taste which we loved as a snack, cooked, or mixed into salads. As for invasive weed-If loving dock is wrong, I don't wanna be right. Some gardeners seem to love only the delicate and special varieties of plants which must be fostered and nursed through every step of thier existence. Personally, I'll take easy growers that dont hand holding and produce a bounty. Bloody dock is one of the later :).

What are the pros? Grows easily, too easily

What are the cons? Invasive weed

Review:

This does grow very well. So well in fact that I have never planted any, but still have it popping up all over my garden. Dock is considered a noxious weed in England so just consider yourself forewarned that if allowed to go to seed you will have it everywhere and will contaminate the countryside with an invasive species.

What are the pros? Beautiful, easy

What are the cons? Bitter, but good for you

Review:

Beautiful to look at and easy to grow, takes shade but does even better in full sun. Not everyone likes this as it has a bitter taste (its a sorrel) and too much can upset your stomach. But a little adds to the flavor of anything you cook or a salad. (My dream, landscape you can eat)
