55 days. (Also called Special Dark Green) A super dependable garden cucumber, sweet and almost never bitter. Slicing-type fruit grows 7 to 8 inches long, 2 inches in diameter. Originally selected out of Davis Perfect (now believed extinct) by George Starr in Royal Oak, Michigan in 1906. Upon its release it was described as “the earliest and best white spine cucumber ever offered.”

What are the pros? Fast, large, vigorous

What are the cons? Slight mildew issue bc of rain

Review:

That was some early spring excessive rains that brought about a bit of powdery mildew, though easily dealt with, the plants excelled and have climbed 8 foot trellises by mid June. The leaves are 16 to 20 inches wide!!! and the vines are nearly an inch thick and there are dozens of flowers. Plant Is taking fertilization great and in high levels. Fun to grow and quite pretty. Can’t wait to taste a couple

What are the pros? Easy to grow, high yield

What are the cons? Too fast

Review:

This is a great variety! With almost no maintenance these things are giving me about a cucumber a day, at least. They're tasty, too. Definitely growing these again next year! My only problem is the cucumbers grow almost too fast. Miss one day and you'll have baseball bat size cucumbers to bring in!

What are the pros? Decent

What are the cons? Get bitter

Review:

I vastly prefer suyo long. These are just OK. They get too big and bitter in one day. Irregular shapes in my garden. Central Texas

What are the pros? Good producers & nice cucumber

What are the cons? Mildew spread quick

Review:

I live in Royal Oak, MI maybe a mile away from the Starr house. I've been there, of course. It has the last part of the main original Native American trail that has been left unpaved on the property. I took them some cucumbers of course I will keep ordering these!

What are the pros? Very forgiving

What are the cons? None really - small prickles?

Review:

I planted 10 seeds and all germinated. Gave 5 plants away, kept the other 5. Despite being badly treated due to a delayed house move and my indecision as to their home in the new garden, the 5 plants have kept me supplied with about 1 cucumber each every few days for the last month. I hope that there are about another 4 weeks to go. All vines have about 5 fruit each at various sizes. Great result. No additional fertilizer other than the original potting compost.
