Very long, slim, 16” fruit is light lavender-purple in color. One of the best long varieties we have seen: mild, sweet and tender; good yields. Unique Taiwan heirloom. This is one of the main varieties we grow for our restaurant each summer.

What are the pros? thin skin, tasty, prolific

What are the cons? some yellow eggplants

Review:

I've grown several varieties of Asian eggplant and this is turning out to be my favorite. A light lilac purple color, it is thin-skinned, making it ideal for stir-frying. I haven't tried roasting it. Occasionally some of the eggplant turn yellow and end up in the compost heap. This seems to happen more with over-ripe fruit if you don't pick them sooner; although sometimes the first fruits are misshapen and yellow. I just take those off and within a couple of weeks, the plant produces long, lilac-colored fruit. Very easy to grown--I haven't had any pests attack my eggplant.

What are the pros? Pretty

What are the cons? Poor yield, slow growth

Review:

I grew these eggplant in 2 different towns here in Idaho; 1 in my yard and 6 at my community garden. One are flood watered, composted and soil dug, other area composted with water overhead. The two areas soil completely different in structure and use. This eggplant did very poorly with both systems and I can only attribute it to dry, arid and hot summer. I grew a beautiful eggplant from Baker Creek called Barberella however that did very well no matter where I planted it! Apperently it is not available from Baker Creek anylonger.

What are the pros? Good Producer

What are the cons? none

Review:

I'm always looking for better varieties for what I like to cook and eat. I love this one for making veggie bacon (fake bacon, or 'fakon'). It's mild taste works the best for the recipe that I found on a website and the long shape gives the 'fakon' a look close to bacon. I have frozen this and eaten later, heated up and served with breakfast. Super tasty! I have also dehydrated a few batches to take camping and it's like having jerky. Absolutely super!!! I also like the Rosita eggplant for slicing and frying, ratatouille, and Baba Ganoush. Highly recommend both!

What are the pros? Almost everything

What are the cons? Skin not suitable for grilling

Review:

This was a very good producer throughout the entire season until the frost. I loved the color, and enjoyed the eggplant saut?ed. I preferred not grilling this particular variety because the skin turned a bit tough. I look forward to growing it again.

What are the pros? didn't care for these

What are the cons? didn't produce

Review:

got one eggplant out of all the effort. we are semi-desert so I guess they did not like the heat. in fairness to these, the only eggplant that produced well in heat was edrienne.
