Very long, slim, 16” fruit are light lavender-purple in color. One of the best long varieties we have seen: mild, sweet and tender; good yields. Unique Taiwan heirloom. This is one of the main varieties we grow for our restaurant each summer.

What are the pros? Good Producer

What are the cons? none

Review:

I'm always looking for better varieties for what I like to cook and eat. I love this one for making veggie bacon (fake bacon, or 'fakon'). It's mild taste works the best for the recipe that I found on a website and the long shape gives the 'fakon' a look close to bacon. I have frozen this and eaten later, heated up and served with breakfast. Super tasty! I have also dehydrated a few batches to take camping and it's like having jerky. Absolutely super!!! I also like the Rosita eggplant for slicing and frying, ratatouille, and Baba Ganoush. Highly recommend both!

What are the pros? Almost everything

What are the cons? Skin not suitable for grilling

Review:

This was a very good producer throughout the entire season until the frost. I loved the color, and enjoyed the eggplant saut?ed. I preferred not grilling this particular variety because the skin turned a bit tough. I look forward to growing it again.

What are the pros? didn't care for these

What are the cons? didn't produce

Review:

got one eggplant out of all the effort. we are semi-desert so I guess they did not like the heat. in fairness to these, the only eggplant that produced well in heat was edrienne.

What are the pros? flavorful & prolific

What are the cons? aphids like them too

Review:

We grew them in a container garden last summer in NE Ohio. We started them in February. Be patient. They take a while to germinate, but we had 100% germination. The plants produced clusters of pretty purple flowers which turned into bunches of eggplants. The fruits were a beautiful purple and had a mild flavor. They were delicious stir fried. If you plant them in containers (we re-purposed cat litter buckets), make sure you keep them well-watered especially toward the end of summer. By late summer they were attacked by aphids, but they continued to thrive. We kept them watered and occasionally sprayed them with pyrethrum/chrysanthemum spray or soapy water.

What are the pros? we got lots of them, tasty

What are the cons? nothing

Review:

these are tender and tasty. We grew them in the summer of 2012 in NE Ohio and they did really well. Good to cook in a stir fry or with sauce. Will grow them again this year!
