Fiaschetto di Manduria Tomato

1 Review | Write a Review

'Fiaschetto' (pronounced "Fee-ah-SKET-oh") means "flask" in Italian, and the name is appropriate considering how juicy these tomatoes are. Originally from the village of Manduria in Taranto Province of Puglia, in the heel of Italy's boot, these 2-3 oz. plum tomatoes with a slight point on the blossom end are great for juicing, sauce, or fresh eating. They are also wonderful sun-dried (or oven-dried). The plants are determinate and very productive. Grown ecologically in New Jersey by the Experimental Farm Network.

What are the pros? Lots of tomatoes

What are the cons? determinate vine

I got these as a gift with my seed order and they are marvelous! The trees are nice and sturdy and puts out a lot of fruits which started ripening about 2 weeks ago and are still ripening as I'm writing this. I have 4 plants in a box and have harvested more than 100 fruits so far, including 19 yesterday and 21 this evening, and will be picking at least 15 more tomorrow. It was so easy to grow, I'm definitely adding it to my order next year. I gave some of the seedlings to friends and they are enjoying a bounty as well. too bad they are determinate, but at least I can keep setting seeds throughout the spring and early summer, so I can have tomatoes the entire summer.
