What are the pros? Flavor, production
What are the cons? Not enough!
We had a terrible summer for tomatoes last year. They were all off the a great start! Except jujube, of which I have yet to get a single seedling let alone tomato. Then the rain came. And stayed. We had a 40 degree day in the middle of July. But when all hope was gone these amazing gems pulled through. They were some of the only survivors. Luckily all the survivors tasted excellent. Gezahnte were the favorite by far. Followed by Rosso Sicilian, German Lunchbox, and Galina in no particular order. Those were the four varieties that survived. And they THRIVED. I mulch with wood chips and (usually) supplement watering only after the beginning of the season (unnecessary because the pouding we took from the rain). Other than that I'm pretty mean to my plants. They have to be able to deal with nature! All four of them will be returning to the garden based on flavor, yield, and ability to tolerate neglect.
