(H.uniflorus Giganteus) This classic giant variety produces large, yellow heads and big, delicious white seeds perfect for roasting. It also grows very tall, 10’-12’! Fun to grow and eat.

What are the pros? Large, Beautiful, Easy to Grow

What are the cons? Favorite of the critters.

Review:

This sunflower was a joy in my garden. It survived several inches of excess water and seemed to grow under any conditions. Almost all of them grew large seed heads and one grew a lot of smaller flowers in the armpits of branches. I should have pinched those off but I enjoyed it and wanted to see what would happen. All of the flowers were a favorite of pollinators, which was a joy to see. Bunnies ate the parts of the leaves they could get to through the fence when the flowers were young, and I was devastated to discover that critters got to the seed heads before the seeds fully matured and dried for harvest. All the seeds were completely gone. I'm in a community garden, and another plot gardener had another kind of giant sunflower that the critters left alone, so these must have been tasty smelling seeds. I will definitely plant again. They were a true joy to grow, regardless of who or what ended up getting the seeds.

What are the cons? Nothing to dislike.

Review:

I live on the island Trinidad and Tobago in the Caribbean, and I was a bit worried about the sunflowers growing properly as we have very heavy clay soil and extreme sun at times, but to my surprise... these were sewed into the ground and grew and performed beautifully. These were the biggest sunflowers I have ever seen grown from seed in my country. I will be buying much more of these and trying other varieties. This sunflower was seen from every angle of the garden and I cant wait to grow more.

Review:

This is my second year growing this beautiful big plant. I will grow it every year because the foliage is beautiful and the seeds are very tasty even raw.
