I have two 2 year plants outside. I waited to harvest anything until the second year as I can grow these as a perinneal in my climate. They grew about 6 feet tall and gave a ton of small, very spikey buds. I think the blooms on these may actually be a brighter purple then on my artichokes. I harvested some of the stems and steamed some, and put others in a soup. I plenty in the freezer for future. I did not mess with blanching but I still enjoyed the taste. I also steamed some of the buds which is not really recommended from culinary experts but I thought they were pretty good anyway, though not as sweet as an artichoke.
