Annual. Salpiglossis caught everyone’s eye in the 2016 flower trials. Nicknamed “painted tongue,” large petunia like blooms are splashed with vibrant purple-pinks and yellows. These pretty flowers are native to southern Chile and are related to nicotiana. Plants average 2.5 feet tall. Suitable for cut flowers.

These are AMAZING! Started them from seed in February, 100% germination rate. Transferred to open soil in May. Now rewarded with the most exceptional flowers at about 2.5 ft tall. Love, Love, Love them! Didn’t think they would work in the U.K. - fantastic results during a heatwave.

Review:

My daughter actuallly started these flowers. She was overwhelmed with other starts and gave me about 10 of them in solo cups. It was an odd looking spikey short plant and I had no idea what the end result would be. I fertilized them with fish emulsion amd they soon shot up and then were bending over after reaching to tall for the lights. I finally got them out into the garden (after a couple months, Feb-Apr). No in May they are reaching straight up, 2' tall atleast and with these deep purple or motted colors like the picture. My neighbor came over to check out the garden and immediately wanted to know what these were. I have them next to my Kilimanjaro creamy white marigolds. Amazing! Will plant them every year.

Excellent plants, easy to grow (don't over-water). They kept blooming until late in October.
