What are the pros? Easy to grow great Price
What are the cons? None
This is very easy to grow. You can sow them about a week after the last frost and throughout the summer. (just remember to water them occasionally) When plants are about 12 inches tall you reap them like you do asparagus. Cut the plant about 3-4 inches from the base then use your hands to break away and discard the hard portion of the stalk. What you will have left are the nice tender (snaps without effort) stalks with the leaves. Next you want to wash them by covering them in a sink of water for about 10 minutes to remove any caked on dirt or bugs. After 10mins gently hose them off with the sink faucet. Finally chop/cut (handful at a time) the stalks and leaves into nice little quarter inch logs and ribbons then add to stews, soups or whatever your culinary imagination desires.
