Review:

Beautiful purple corn gives beautiful purple masa, I couldn’t get my hands on any Oaxaca landrace varieties to grow for homemade masa but took a chance on Hopi purple. I am not disappointed in the results, beautiful purple tortillas with a wonderful nutty earthy flavor! Purple Hopi corn only grows to be 4’- 5’ tall and didn’t shade the other plants in my garden (grown vertically) so this is a keeper for space. I live in the high desert and this corn had no problems growing in the high heat of summer.

Review:

I planted the Hopi Purple in mid-April in the midst of a very wet, warm spring here in SE Virginia. I had a problem with squirrels rooting up young plants, which was personally devastating as you can imagine. I replanted, told my kids to chase squirrels, and the Hopi Purple did wonderful. As expected, I battled some bugs through the hot, humid summer but the corn did just fine as I kept an eye on it and personally made the bug's lives miserable, and worse. These Hopi Purple are beautiful ears of corn and I let them dry and then ground them into corn flour to make blueberry corn muffins and purple cornbread through the fall and winter. I am a big fan of this corn and looking forward to planting again.

Review:

I planted this corn late in the season, late May in Northern VA. The growing season here is also shorter than my home region in the Ozarks. The corn was planted in four stalk pods spaced closely together for pollination. This corn has not missed a lick, it stands against heavy wind and the constant rains we have had this summer. There are 3 ears on about 60 % of the stalks. The only babysitting I have done is to shake pollen for pollination and regularly kill Japanese Beetles that eat at the silks. All that being said, my ears are nearly all appearing full and the harvest within a couple weeks is shaping up to put my Bantam 12 row to shame. I hope it is as pretty as what Baker's Creek has photographed. Purple tinted Cornbread is my aim.
