What are the pros? Love eating Jicama!
What are the cons? Figuring out how to grow it
We love Jicama freshly sliced or cooked for 25min at 375. Last yr, our 1st yr growing it, we started in a temp controlled room w/ heating pads. They grew well, vining 18 inches or so. Transplanted outside the vines basically whither. We expected nothing, feeling disappointed ??.
While cleaning up the garden bed at the end of the season, we found 2 glorious Jicama. Not big, maybe softball size. SUCCESS! Though they were much smaller and less tasty than store bought.???????
This year we started them the same way & took 3 from there into the hoop house. 2 have ?perished? While 1 is alive, having taken off, STRONG LIKE BULL. ????????
Anyways, the point. We started closing the hoop house because Jicama likes heat. As do peppers ?? & other plants. In 3 days I measured 6inches of growth. Jicama need hot temps! That’s the point?!
