This amazing early Indian melon was collected by Joseph Simcox. The fruit is a brilliant copper-red and are striped in green and cream, making this an extremely unusual and beautiful melon. The pale green flesh is sweet, aromatic and slightly musky in taste. Joe believes that this melon originated in the Punjab, and he spent more than 8 years trying to find seeds of this extremely interesting variety. Vine produces lots of 2 lb fruit.

What are the pros? Color and easy to trellis

What are the cons? Bit to musky taste

Review:

Grew well and lost only one plant (vine borer). Produced 3 melons per plant got a late start still climbed over a 8 foot trellis. Was first time had 8 hours of sun ( small front yard garden)back garden only gets 5 hours . Taste is a bit strong when eaten by it self. Zone 5b

What are the pros? gorgeous in & outside

What are the cons? too juicy?

Review:

This remains my favorite melon ever. I always test new melons but Kajari remains since the first year (now 4th year). When a melon has it all: tough / eye candy / great taste Very melting juicy lime green flesh. Juicy like watermelon but taste is unique. Butter scotch candy

What are the pros? Easy to grow, attractive

What are the cons? Susceptible to powdery mildew

Review:

I've planted these melons 2 summers in a row. This variety is the first to come up and the most robust-looking. The vines grow large quickly. They are fairy prolific, producing multiple fruits on each vine without my help. If I do help pollinate, then I end up with dozens of smallish melons (so I don't recommend that, unless you want to end up with multitudes of tennis-ball-sized, albeit tasty and gorgeous, fruits). The fruits are extremely attractive and slip off the vine when ripe. It's easy to tell when they're about to slip because the fruits change color dramatically over the course of a day or two. While Kajari melons are not the best-tasting green-fleshed melons I've had (they are like honeydews with overtones of something else I can't put my finger on), they do still taste good, sweet and refreshing, and are satisfying to grow. The plants aren't picky, aside from a tendency towards powdery mildew. Much easier to grow than Petit Gris de Rennes.
