What are the pros? Edible Seeds

What are the cons? Squash Vine Borers

The squash vine borers really hit this pumpkin hard; and with all of our efforts of squishing bugs, extracting worms, and burying sections of vine with dirt and compost, the plant died prematurely. We did manage to harvest 3 pumpkins before the plant gave up and died. Each pumpkin only yielded 1-2 cups of seeds. Some of the seeds were already sprouting inside. Like others have mentioned online, the flesh is rather tough and not for cooking. The chickens loved it. We did carve one just for fun. I may grow these again but they do take up a lot of space for only a few handfuls of seeds. Best to plant it on the edge of the garden and let it sprawl in the yard.
