Kazakhstan Eggplant

Seed collected at a state-run market in Alma Ata, Kazakhstan, by A.T. Whittemore, and donated to the USDA Germplasm Repository in 1991. The plants are rather compact, reaching 24 to 30 inches in our trials. Pale purple flowers give way to dark purple-black, teardrop-shaped fruits to 6 inches or so, produced early and in abundance. To our knowledge this variety has never before been offered for sale in North America.
