Rare Marvel from Japan! This historic melon is named for the Japanese Chrysanthemum flower, which it is said to resemble. One of the best melons we found in Japan with an incredibly unique flavor. A very rare, early and beautifully productive, small, white, creamy melon that has mellow flesh. It tastes like greek yogurt with a hint of lychee; the flavor has also been compared to pear. The origin of Kiku melon is the Makuwa Uri melon which came from China to Japan sometime in antiquity.

Review:

These super cute, fit in the palm of your hand melons are a fool proof choice for your garden. I started 2 plants from seed. Barely watered my garden at all. These produced them most unique small delicate fruits. I ate my first one today, it has the thinnest skin that was extremely easy to peel with a pairing knife (think peeling an apple). I picked mine when completely white. It has a sweet mild delicate honeydew like taste with some softness and crunch. They are beautiful!! Can’t wait to grow more of these sweet little melons.

Review:

A nice mini melon with a unique flavor. I found it to be like honeydew with a floral twist. The pictured melon has green stripes on it, but mine were not yet ripe when the green stripes were still showing. I had to leave them on the vine until completely white, almost translucent. They can be eaten early when the stripes are green, but then they just taste like a cucumber with no sweetness. When properly ripened, they were sweet and delicious. I direct seeded three seeds in a hole and thinned to two vines. These set at least 10 fruits ranging in size from just a few ounces (tiny!) up to 3/4 lb. Very fun individual serving size little melon. I enjoyed it and will grow it again!

Review:

I harvested my first one of these today. It is a very pleasant tasting white fleshed melon. It meets all of my growing criteria for my area. I am definitely going to grow this one again next season.
