What are the pros? grows fast, easy, delicious

What are the cons? bolts in mild heat

My first time direct sowing a garden was this past spring. The komatsuma was the first of the seed to pop up, great for garden morale! It grew very quickly, keeping pace with the pink radishes. Within a couple of weeks, from one row we had plenty of young greens for salads. Larger leaves were excellent wilted with a bit of olive oil & lemon juice. Tastes like a cross between spinach and mustard. Delicious, succulent, mild, and full of interesting flavor. Extremely versatile in the kitchen. The only drawback was that they bolted pretty soon into the season, in 80 degree weather. Leaves did not get bitter upon bolting, however, so we kept on eating until they were gone. Now I'm just waiting for the weather to cool off a bit so I can sow some more. My husband also loved it and declared that we'll always have komatsuma in our garden. A good standby for beginners. :)
