What are the pros? Easy to grow, beautiful, YUMM

What are the cons? nothing!

Review:

I grew a huge variety of squash seedlings, but my 4 year old 'helped' by taking the seedlings (only just sprouted) outside and 'planted them' all over my garden while I was down for a nap (had the flu). My husband didn't stop him (why?!) of those badly abused little seeds only four survived: One was the lakota squash that produced two gorgeous squash on one vine. We already ate one and it was FANTASTIC! We will be adding this to our 'plant every year' pile. Still trying to identify two of the others that didn't have time to fully mature, but the Lakota squash did great with only half a summers growing time and it was also completely ignored because I didn't know my son had planted it behind the barbeque until I saw something growing out from behind my grill! Hardy as heck! It managed to grow with zero care, little water, and little sun and still did great. I'm impressed!

What are the pros? Seem to be compact

What are the cons? Very few grew

Review:

I planted three seeds and got three squash in a raised bed. I live in zone 9 and I actually expected a good crop. Sadly, the sun seems to be burning them before they are ripening. Also for the first time ever I noticed squash bugs in my garden and on them - they didn't get on my butternut squash at all. I'll try again next year in the ground in a shadier spot or maybe I'll replant for a potential second harvest. I really wanted some for storage. :(

What are the pros? Nutty flavor, beautiful color

What are the cons? Deer love it too

Review:

One of the best tasting squash we have found. Keeps well in cool dry conditions well into May. Doesn't need extra sweetening with baking in a slow oven with butter or bacon. Sells well at Market due to the smaller size yet big enough to feed a family at Holidays. Cans exceptionally well. Keeps it flavor with preserving. This one made our every year growing list.

What are the pros? Squash color isn't bad

What are the cons? Incredibly low yield

Review:

Disappointing. Despite planting in manure amended soil and several rounds of fish emulsion throughout the season vines stayed very small, grew no more than 18" or so. Produced a reasonable number of blossoms, but fruit just didn't seem to set. Other squash & veggies I grew set fruit just fine, so I don't think it was a pollinator issue. I'd read reviews about how prolific this variety was so I only grew 3 vines, not wanting to overwhelm my pantry. Coming into harvest, I have exactly 3 softball-sized squash. I may change my mind if the flavor is incredible, but yield this low is a strong negative.

What are the pros? pretty

What are the cons? doesn't grow well in northeast

Review:

Grew 5 plants and got 2 squashes, 1 that was edible. I'm a commercial farmer and love adding weird and unusual varieties to my farmers' markets stand. These however will not be grown again, it just didn't do well in our area. We had an exceptionally dry and hot summer here in Vermont and the dryness may have affected productivity but i got plenty of butternuts, acorns, etc.
