A stunning burst of fruity flavor and vibrant color makes this our most exciting new hot pepper! This colorful new “heirloom” was introduced by New Mexico State University. A sunny lemon yellow variety, it was bred using natural backcrossing techniques, resulting in an extra spicy and super eye-catching fruit. The Numex series was created in response to America’s increasing appreciation for eating a rainbow of nutrition. Super ornamental and extremely prolific, well adapted to the hot, dry New Mexican climate. This variety has major eye appeal and stands out in salsas and other fresh prepartations; the color is stunning and really pops. Edible landscaping is a breeze with lemon spice; the sturdy plants are covered in bright globes. Great for mixed bed or container planting. Thanks to Jim Duffy of Refining Fire Chilis for bringing this exciting new find to our attention!

What are the pros? Really tasty

What are the cons? Slow to maturity

Review:

Grown in zone 9a, cow manure enriched soil, drip irrigation. Of the varieties I planted these were the slowest of the Jalape?os behind the NuMex Orange Spice and the red ones I seed-saved from last year. They are bigger than the orange spice and smaller than the red ones. Their flavor is similar to the orange spice variety. Delicious deseeded raw. I wish I had planted more. Of the 15 seeds there was nearly 100% germination, but it was a wet year and due to cold, wet and pest issues I only have 3 mature plants. I wish I had protected some blooms to seed save for next year. This is a great variety for pickling or eaten fresh.

What are the pros? HOT!

What are the cons? germination slow

Review:

I finally got some peppers on my plant. 2019 has not been a great year for growing peppers. I started from seed, late anyway. I have some green ones and brought one in the house for my husband to try. One bite and he said, "oh that's good." I took a bite and my mouth burned throughout dinner. Seeds and membrane were not taken out. One healthy bite of this pepper put me down!. Now I want to see if my others turn yellow to see the flavor difference.

What are the cons? Could be a little hotter

Review:

My first year with this pepper and its been very productive. Last week got my first one fully ripened and I was surprised at the sweetness. It has mild heat with a thick crunchy flesh.and they go from green to yellow very rapidly.

What are the pros? High Yeild, Nice Heat!!!

What are the cons? none

Review:

These have to be the best Jalapenos ive ever grown. The bushes are packed with good sized peppers. Be patient with them, once they start turning yellow you will be picking them every day. I was also surprised with the heat. Mine have a nice kick to them.
