90 days. One of the most popular heirloom types; this one has 7”-long fruit that are white with lovely bright purple stripes. They are so beautiful and have fabulous flavor with sweet, tender flesh. This excellent variety hails from Spain, a country that is renowned for fine food.

What are the pros? Flavor germination appearance

What are the cons? Pest Control

Review:

This is my third year growing these beauties. Here in Michigan zone 6A I typically start my plants indoors in March and plant outdoors in containers or raised beds. They always grow well and produce wonderfully but the first year the leaves were hit hard by ants colonizing the plants with black aphids. Once I got rid of the ants (capped water bottle with 1 tbsp each of borax, sugar and honey with a small hole in the side for the ants to get in) the aphids were easy to get rid of with water from a garden hose and then an insecticide spray of cold pressed need with azadirachtin (2tbsp in 1 gallon water with a little mild detergent). Still get some holes in the leaves but overall beautiful plants and incredible flavor. Even larger eggplants seem to avoid bitterness and definitely less "slimy" texture than other kinds. This is definitely one of my favorites.

What are the pros? Everything

What are the cons? Not as flavorful as some

Review:

This has done great for me here in Hawaii (Puna, Big Island 700' elevation). I love seeing these growing in the garden, and harvesting is such fun. They are such beauties. The plants are large and healthy, producing gorgeous, tasty fruit after gorgeous, tasty fruit. Sweet and not at all bitter. I recently harvested a fruit that had been hidden on this lush plant, and had gotten a good 10" long, and very thick. It had some seeds, but not a trace of bitterness. Excellent, firm texture. These do not seem to have as strong of an eggplant flavor as some, and they also seem to have less of a tendency to get "slimy" when cooked. I love eggplant in all of its forms, but my husband does not. He seems more willing to eat this variety because of its milder flavor and firmer texture. So a good one for eggplant lovers and haters alike :)

What are the pros? Taste sweet!

What are the cons? Nada!

Review:

A wonderful plant! I planted them in early spring in growing trays and transplanted them in mid-spring. With only 4 plants I grew more than I could eat. Beautiful fruit, exactly like the picture. Very plump with a lot of meat and few seeds. It?s a great plant for the average gardener!

What are the pros? tasty, beautiful, not bitter

What are the cons? other varieties more prolific

Review:

Not as prolific as other varieties I grew in summer 2016. No bitterness, though I always try to pick eggplants on the small size to avoid seedy, bitter fruits. I refuse to brine my eggplants. The plants and fruit were so beautiful I would consider planting Listada De Grandia in the front yard with the ornamental plants. I planted the seeds inside in mid-February. At the same time I started tomatoes and peppers and discovered the eggplants and peppers need more heat than the tomatoes. Listada De Grandia followed a purple vetch cover crop. I did not spray any insecticide, fertilize, or notice any insect damage. We had some very hot days in June, over 100 F, and the eggplants enjoyed the heat.

What are the pros? Beauty and taste

What are the cons? None

Review:

This was my first time growing eggplants. I started them inside from seed on a heated mat in three pots. Almost all the seeds germinated and I had to cut back to three plants. Transplanted them into three 4 gallon plastic tubs filled with compost and potting soil. Here in early August we have already had about eight fruits with more on the way! I'm not a big eggplant eater but these have the best flavor I've ever had and will definitely grow them again next year, but maybe just one or two plants. These seem really prolific.
