Lollipop Mix Gaillardia

Add a touch of warmth to the color palette with this breathtaking mix of sunset red, gold, and yellow. The lollipop mix is a delightful frilly petaled mix, a perfect self-seeding annual that is heat and drought tolerant, and thrives in poor soil. Long stems and an impressive vase, make this an ideal cutting flower. Gaillardia is native to North America, making it an ideal choice as a low maintenance and showy wildflower. Most importantly, our pollinators in peril will thank you for planting it; the large disks make the most inviting landing pad for beleaguered butterflies who will be grateful for the nutritious nectar feast!

Review:

I have some of these, and I want more. I grew them in small peat pellets and transplanted them last spring, to replace the old barberry bushes that I had removed. The spot is in the shade all morning, until the sun comes around, and then it is in full sun almost all afternoon; it is far from the faucet, and therefore hard to water (i.e. I did not bother to water it except when it really got far too hot). Drought does not affect Gaillardia, and this morning I saw a humming bird hovering over them. I have both this kind (Lollipop Mix) and the Lorenziana kind (mine are as shown on the corresponding picture. They look nice side by side (about the same height, both kinds with bright colors), but I do not know which one the humming bird was looking for, or looking at.
