What are the pros? Hot peppers, Big plum tomatoes
What are the cons? Groundhogs
I've tried some 20 or so varieties of Cuke here in NEPA. I had bad luck with MM76 the first time I grew them. Everything in the garden did pretty badly, but it was really a hot summer. I had settled on straight 8 for their tenacity even though the yields weren't great. A few years back, I read an article that recommended the marketmores, and tried them again, and I'm glad I did. In a normal year, they have at least doubled my yields over straight 8, and usually quadrupled it. Yes, there's that big a difference, at least in my garden. I trellis them, and they produce like mad. They like water and partial shade, but they also need some sun. I'm growing them right out in front as part of my rotating, and we'll see how they do. I may trellis someting to give them some shade.
