What are the pros? Healthy plant, easy to grow

What are the cons? none

Review:

So easy to grow. I stuck seed in the dirt and waited. I over planted, thinking some would not make it. I think everything germinated! Tons of plants. Now covered with small cucumbers. I ate two small ones yesterday--fabulous taste. Such healthy, hardy plants too. We have been bombarded by rain this year and the plants look fabulous.

What are the pros? High yields, can trellis

What are the cons? None

Review:

I've always loved this variety, as it's always been a top performer and produced plenty of delicious cucumbers. Last year I ran out of space (poor planning on my part) and only had room for one variety of cucumber. I picked this one and planted 6 hills. Also due to lack of space, I trained them to a trellis, and WOW! I was drowning in cucumbers by late July (after a early June planting in zone 7A) and they stayed strong through September. I'll be trellising all my cucumbers this year. If you can only choose one variety, choose this one! If you're limited on space, never be afraid to try a trellis, and even if you're not, try to anyways!

What are the pros? Easy, prolific

Review:

I used to only grow pickling type cucumbers. I tried a new method of planting last year - casting - and decided to try a type that would be forgiving if I were to miss a day of harvesting. I literally tossed these seeds onto the 30x30 bed (mixed in with intermittent sunflower seeds for eventual vine support and shade), raked them in, watered and let it go. I had more beautiful cukes this year than ever, and of all sizes. In the past, if I were to miss a cuke on harvest, it would be big, tough, dry and pithy by the time I found it. With these, you can harvest cukes as big as zucchini and they will still taste like a slicer from the store. The vines that were under the mammoth sunflowers seemed to do the best, as we had a pretty major drought this year (lots of sunshine). I will likely plant these together (zone 5) indefinitely. Besides the shade, the sunflowers provide a gorgeous pole for the cucumbers to climb upon and plenty of pollinators!

What are the pros? Planted late, still prolific

What are the cons? none

Review:

I got a late start with my cucumbers this year and put a few seeds in one of my beds when I noticed I had some space. It was probably late June. Well, the seeds sprouted almost instantly and I have been rewarded with loads of beautiful fruit that look like they would take prime space at a posh supermarket. In the past three days or so, I've taken 4 huge cukes off the vine and I see several more that are still growing. Their taste is lovely and I have yet to experience the bitterness that others have gotten.

What are the cons? Bitter taste

Review:

I grew these for the first time this year here in hot and humid Oklahoma and I was not happy with these. First month or so, they tasted great, but then they turned bitter :(
