What are the pros? Early, small, canteloupe-like
What are the cons? too small, puny, weak, bland
I will preface this review with the fact that i only planted one plant of this variety & it was planted rather close to a group of other melons that are larger, more vigorous.
So, crowding may have been a problem. I planted this for genetic reasons mainly, but did hope for a chance for sampling it's fruit. All I got was one tiny fruit, which was somewhat bland canteloupe-like flavor, pale tan on outside, orange interior. Possibly got too much shade & competition from the other vines in the hill, which quickly took over.
I'm still curious about it & may try it again, but I'll admit that I planted it mainly for genetic down-sizing with vines of another variety and mixing genetics with a third if possible. Amateur hybridizing scheme going on here with seeds from various sources. Will see what comes of it. THE BIG DEAL for me...was that it matured that single fruit, which (due to the one Melba surrounded by all the others) , did have a number of seeds. :)
