A solid carrot choice
Easy to Grow 4.5
EarlyMaturity 4.5

What are the pros? Good flavor, easy to grow

What are the cons? Forks more easily than others

I'm growing six varieties of carrots this year, and the Nantes Scarlets are tasty, though they seem to be a bit more prone to forking than some of the other varieties. I don't think I've yet pulled a Cosmic Purple, Purple Dragon or Atomic Red that were forked. For comparison's sake, with regard to orange carrots in particular, the St. Valery carrots have been surprisingly straight, with amazing flavor. I have yet to do a side by side taste test between the Nantes Scarlet and St. Valery carrots, but both taste wonderful and are pleasantly sweet. On ease of growing alone I would select the St. Valery carrots as the better carrots. I'm growing all varieties in the same raised bed this year, so location/soil composition isn't a factor. The Nantes Scarlet is certainly a great carrot, but it isn't my favorite carrot, and I may just stick to the St. Valery variety next year.
