The real benefit of this plant is in its leaves...these (both the purple and orange varieties) are very ubiquitous in my native country of India. The orange fruits taste better and sweeter than the purple ones. The raw green fruits are sun-dried and used commonly in cooking. The leaves are cooked just like spinach and any other greens. Not sure whether they can be eaten raw. They are highly valued for their nutrition in Indian cuisine.
