Patio White - Lavatera

Lavatera is also known as Tree Mallow, and can reach 6 feet tall! But Patio White is smaller and more manageable for today’s smaller gardens, seldom exceeding 28 inches. The large, stunning flowers come on all summer long, shimmering in a clear, satiny white. The size makes this one perfect for borders and bedding, but it is equally at home in containers, patio plantings, and more.

What are the pros? Showy

What are the cons? Does not like transplanting

Review:

I have to start it indoors here in Alaska and it can be finicky about being transplanted. But if you give it TLC until you get it into your garden you will be rewarded with such delicate translucent flowers it will become a must have every year. It needs staking. Please try the pink variety also. You won’t be sorry. This flower will always have a place in my garden.

What are the pros? Tonnes of Blossoms

What are the cons? Hard to start inside

Review:

I got some of a pink variety of this plant from this site, which is no longer here but this one appears to have similar qualities. It was a little harder to start inside but once I had some plants planted outside, they were lovely. I live in zone three and this biennial over wintered well. It was the talk of the garden with it's tall4-5'stature and prufuse amount of unique looking blooms. Everyone loved it, including the bees. It bloomed all season non stop and I have hundreds and hundreds of seeds for the new year. The one in a pot on my patio also did well. It grew to be about 2'.
