What are the pros? They are good when ripe
What are the cons? Need to stake them like tomato
I have grown them several times here in Hawaii. I really like the cantaloupe flavor they have when ripe. If you pick them too soon, they are crisp and not very sweet, but they are quite good if you allow them to ripen. Make sure there is some good yellowing between the dark colors, and sometimes you can smell them. If you started them with seed, they can vary in taste. If you find a very good tasting plant, you can take cuttings easily, root them in the shade for a few days in warm weather, and then you will have another plant.
